I only got paid 300,000 for working last month. The other school took out 1.6 million for my plane ticket. Then other fees. I don't understand why the other fees equaled 200,000 but no one wont give me an answer on that. I hate that Koreans don't keep records.
So I was suppose to meet my driver in front of the school at 11:30 am. I went there and waited for 20 minutes. Then I got a call from one of the korean teachers at Avalon. She said my driver was outside of my apartment. great. so I had to walk 10 minutes back to my apartment. Why did my recruiter tell me to meet him in front of the school? He actually called once but he doesnt speak any English. Then I had to make about 5 trips up and down the stairs BY MYSELF! while my driver watched. He kept talking to me in Korean. I have no clue what he was saying!.
We left around 12:15 and I arrived in Seoul around 1:44pm.
The driver unloaded my stuff in front of the school and left. Someone from the school was there. Andrew also came to meet me. We stood around forever just waiting.Waiting on what? I don't know.
Then I find out shocking news. "oh btw you'll be staying in a motel for the next 2 nights." It was a crappy motel and I was on the 4th floor. No elevator. taking all of my crap up the stairs was not good!
There was a blacklight in the room. When you turned it on a figure of a naked woman showed up over the bed. yep real classy. They had one of those old school tvs with a vcr built in. In the hall there were tons of videos for people to watch. They were all porn. wasn't too hard to figure that one out. Just look at the pictures on the boxes. They also had the communual products in the room-aftershave, lotion, hairbrush, comb, shampoo, rinse, toothpaste. I didn't use them.
After unloading my crap at the motel me and Andrew went to have lunch. We went to the Mcdonalds on the 6th floor of E-mart. Emart is similar to Walmart but a lot bigger. You can find everything at e-mart. 7 floors of stuff.
Then the guy who works with the foreign teachers came to meet me at E-mart. We went to see my officetel where I'll be living. Its big. I'll have a microwave and a closet! There was still someone living in it when I looked at it.
Then we went back to the school. I had to do an interview with a vice director. It was so hard doing the interview. She didn't speak much English so the guy in charge of foreign teachers had to translate and it was hard to understand him. He was telling me that I needed a suit. what? I told him I didn't have one.
Then he walked me back to the hotel. He said I was missing something. I looked around and I was missing my drying rack. He went back to the school and brought it back to me.
at night Leslie, another foreign teacher-from South Africa-invited me to go to Itaewon. While I was at the subway station waiting on her I got a text from Andrew inviting me to Itaewon. I told him I was going with Leslie.
I met Leslie at Bulwang. When we got to Itaewon we went to Geckos for a few minutes then we headed down to hooker hill. When we were walking up the hill there were 2 guys sitting down and they were laughing. Leslie asked "what's so funny?" They said "keep walking and you'll find out" I guess they were talking about the chubby hooker. Hooker hill is where all the hookers hangout. Its not legal but the police don't really do anything about it. These hookers target all the single men.
We went into Pollys for a second then we went to Grand Ole Opry. We were saying how weird it is to see a country bar in South Korea. Then we left to meet up with Andrew at Baby Guiness. James, my old recruiter (he quit and opened his own agency) was there. He gave me a hug. Leslie thought it was some drunk guy and she said "do you know him?" I told her who he was. Then everyone decided to go to Geckos. I met some other foreign teachers who came from ESL park (the recruiting agency).
I stayed till around 11:15 or so. I had to get back to the subway. Well I took a short detour and went to KFC to get supper. I got on the train at 11:30. Problem is the trains stop around that time. The train ended before my stop. I got off at Eung-am. I didn't know how I was going to get home. I would have taken a cab but I didnt have any cash and I didnt know how much it was going to cost. So I decided I'd try to find my own way around.
I walked around for an hour and 30 minutes. I finally made it home! I kept following subway signs. I was walking all sorts of ways and I kept going one way and then turning around. I'm doing all this around midnight.I finally saw one for Nokbeon station and followed the arrows. I knew my hotel was near nokbeon station. I finally got home around 1:30am.
I was walking around a foreign country after midnight without a care in the world. I feel safe over here. I'd never do that in Charlotte!!
