South Korea has the highest suicide rate in the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development).
I was shocked to find out that so many suicides happen among children. Last year a total of 139 children committed suicide. 88 of those were high school students. Its hard to believe that 51 children under the age of 15 committed suicide.
The rate has been declining since 2009. In 2009 there were 202 suicides among children. In 2011 the number dropped to 150 and 139 in 2012. South Korea still has the highest rate of suicide even though it is on the decline.
The most common reasons for suicide included family trouble, depression, study pressure, and relationship problems.
