Omurice is an omlete with rice inside. It is so good. My local Kimbap Heaven has different versions of omurice. I've tried all of them except the sausage one. I think my favorite was the chicken omurice.

| 갈비탕 8,000 krw |
갈비탕=beef short rib soup
I got this dish at a small restaurant in Ilsan near Jeongbalsan station. It was 8,000 won ($8). It was so good! The meat was tender and had a good flavor. I also liked the side dishes. I even tried some of the spicy ones!

Korean Food: 돼지 갈비살
돼지=pig
갈비살=rib meat
돼지 갈비살 is so delicious. I went out to dinner with my friend in Dongdaemun and we ate galbisal. You cook the meat at your table. It comes out as a big piece of meat and you cut it into smaller pieces with scissors.

Korean Food: Mandu (만두)
Yesterday I tried 3 different kinds of mandu. Mandu is a dumpling with filling inside. I got these dumplings at a small shop in Goyang. The plate with 3 different kinds was 8,000 won (about $8.00)
The ball mandu is called 굴린만두 (gullin mandu). The mandu contained mixed vegetables and pork.
The mandu on the right side of the plate is steamed mandu 찐만두 (jjinmandu). It was filled with pork and kimchi. (The one filled with kimchi was really spicy!)
The bigger mandu is called 튀김만두 (twigim mandu). It is deep fried and filled with japchae and pork.

Zinger Double Down King (KFC)
My unboxing video:
I've been seeing a few videos and comments online about the new burger at KFC. It looked interesting so I had to check it out.
The videos by other expats had mixed reviews.
I know its bad for you. Everyone says it could cause a heart attack! I'm willing to take a risk. Its not something I would eat on a regular basis. I just wanted to try it for "research". I won't get it again because of the expensive price and the artery clogging properties of triple meat.
The Zinger Double Down King came out on October 18, 2014. The slogan is "No bun, all meat". There are 3 pieces of meat on the "burger". There is 2 piece of chicken (the "bun"), a beef patty, and a piece of bacon. They also added some sort of brown and white sauce.
The burger by itself costs 6900 won (about $6.90) and has 750 calories.
I actually liked the burger! It's a very interesting combination. I liked the sauce combination. The chicken was really good. One piece seemed to have some spice on it. There were a few flaws in my opinion. The chicken was way too greasy! The hamburger patty didn't really have a hamburger taste. It reminded me more of a sausage patty.
Some people say it should be shared among 3-4 people, but I ate the whole burger alone. I have a very good appetite. I'll admit it. I like to eat.

New Deluxe Shrimp Burger at Mcdonalds
update (Nov 1)-I'm adding my "unboxing" video:
This week I saw an ad for the the new shrimp burger at McDonalds. The ad looked very appetizing so I had to check it out for myself. The burger debuted on Tuesday October 21st.
Today I tried the shrimp burger and it was great! The burger has pieces of whole shrimp, cheese, lettuce, and thousand island sauce.You really can feel the whole pieces of shrimp in the burger. The cheese is a bit odd, but it didn't make it taste bad. I liked the thousand island sauce. The burger will only be here on limited edition basis unless people like it. I hope they have it for at least a month! The shrimp burger may be my go to burger instead of the big mac. I think the shrimp burger will be slightly more healthy. It has less calories than the big mac.
The shrimp burger costs 5500 won (about $5.50) for a set. You can add on a pink lemonade for 300 won. I also tried the pink lemonade. It tastes weird to me, kinda like carbonated water with some kind of syrup. I wouldn't order it again.

Korean Food: 영양갈비탕 (Nutritious Rib Soup)
Yeong Yang Galbi Tang translates into nutritious rib soup.
영양=yeong yang=nutritious
갈비=Galbi=rib
탕=tang=soup
Galbi tang is a soup made with short ribs. You can eat the rib off of the bone. Medicinal ingredients such as ginseng, jujube and pine nuts are added to this version (yeong yang) of galbi tang. (I'm not sure what was added into my soup though..I do see a jujube in there.) You can dip the meat into a sauce. Koreans also pour their rice into the soup.
Ribs are one of most expensive cuts of meat in Korea.
This costed 10,000 won at a family restaurant in Seoul.
The soup was very delicious!

Korean Food: 떡만두국 (Dumpling Soup)
There's a restaurant on the first floor of my building that specializes in Mandu Guk. There are only 2 dishes on the menu. I walk past it every day so I decided to give it a try today.
It's a mild soup with no spice so its good for me. (I don't like spicy food). The dumplings are filled with meat and vegetables.
I got the tteok mandu guk. tteok is rice cake. (I love the rice cakes in soup!) The dish costed 7,000 won (about $7).

I also got some ddeok mandu guk at Kimbap Heaven in my neighborhood on another day. It costed 5000 won (about $5)
Each place makes it differently. This place had rice cakes, mandu, onions, seaweed, carrots and an egg.

Korean Food: Naeng Myeon 물 냉면
냉면 means cold noodles. The version I got is 물 냉면. 물 means water.
Naeng myeon is made with long thin noodles. You can get the noodles cut so it is easier to eat. The restaurant will cut them with kitchen scissors. It is served in a steel dish with a tangy iced broth, egg, and cucumbers.
Spicy mustard and vinegar are added before eating. (I didn't know what was in those containers so I didn't add anything!)
I never thought I'd get full off of noodles, but I couldn't finish my bowl!

Korean Food: Tuna Salad Toast
This is tuna salad toast. I got the toast at a small shop in the Hongik University subway station on line 2 of the Seoul Metro. I got this when I was transferring from line 2 to the Gyeongui line.
It only costs 2,000 won (about $2) and it is delicious!!
South Korea's concept of toast is a bit different from the toast we are accustomed to in America.
They also have other varieties such as pizza, potato salad, sweet potato, sweet crab, spicy chicken
