December 19 was election day in South Korea. The polls were open from 6am to 6pm KST.
The new President is Park Geun-hye. She is the first woman President in South Korea. She received 51.6% of the vote. Moon Jae-in received 48% of the votes.
The voter turnout was 75.8% which was the highest turnout in the past 15 years. The voter turnout in 1997 was 80.7%. The turnout of the last election in 2007 was 63%.
The new President takes office on Febuary 25, 2013 for a 5 year term.
